Colorado – Dry air and gusty winds are already sweeping across the Front Range this afternoon, creating a heightened fire risk that could spread quickly along open corridors and grassy areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, elevated to critical fire weather conditions are developing along the I-25 corridor and foothills due to warm temperatures, low humidity, and breezy winds. Highs are reaching into the low 70s across the plains, increasing ignition risk across Douglas, Jefferson, and Boulder counties.

Travelers along I-25, especially south toward Castle Rock and north through Fort Collins, should avoid any activities that could spark flames. Even small embers can spread rapidly under these conditions. Secure equipment and avoid parking on dry grass.

Conditions begin shifting by Thursday afternoon as moisture increases. A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after midday, bringing brief downpours and lightning. Roads may turn slick quickly, especially during the late-day commute across Denver and Aurora.

Showers continue into Thursday night and remain in the pattern through Friday, with another 50% chance of rain and isolated storms. Winds may gust near 20 mph, adding variability to travel conditions.

Saturday keeps scattered showers in place with highs near the mid-70s, while Sunday trends slightly drier but still unsettled with additional storm chances.

Looking ahead, early next week cools slightly with continued rain chances before warmer, above-normal spring temperatures return late next week.
