Denver, CO – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to return across Colorado this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder. The strongest activity will develop over higher terrain, but isolated storms are also forecast to move into the urban corridor.
According to forecasters, the primary threats include gusty outflow winds reaching up to 40 mph, brief periods of heavy rain, and the potential for small hail. Residents in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and surrounding Front Range communities should be alert for rapidly changing conditions through tonight.
Temperatures will remain mild, slightly above normal for late September, with highs in the low to mid-80s across the plains. Areas west of the Continental Divide, including Breckenridge, Estes Park, and Aspen, are likely to see cooler conditions in the 60s, with storms most concentrated in mountain and foothill regions.
Drivers across I-25, I-70, and adjacent highways should watch for slick roads and sudden reductions in visibility during heavier downpours. Outdoor plans may be disrupted as storms build in the afternoon and persist into the evening hours.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring local forecasts and being prepared to move indoors if storms approach.
