Denver, Colo. – After a stretch of warm, dry weather, the Denver metro and Front Range face a shift this weekend as winds strengthen and scattered showers return. The National Weather Service in Boulder warns of breezy conditions Saturday afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms, followed by light mountain snow showers Saturday night.
According to the NWS Denver/Boulder office, winds will increase Saturday afternoon and evening as a weak front clips northern and central Colorado. Gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph across the Plains and I-25 corridor, with isolated higher gusts in the foothills. Forecasters add that showers will mainly favor the foothills, Palmer Divide, and northern mountains, though Denver and surrounding suburbs could see a brief thunderstorm by evening.
Travelers on I-70 through Summit and Grand Counties may encounter wet roads and reduced visibility as light snow mixes in above 9,000 feet Saturday night. While accumulation is expected to remain light, motorists should prepare for slick spots, especially near passes.
Sunday turns cooler with highs in the lower 70s around Denver, with lingering showers possible east of I-25. By early next week, another round of scattered showers may develop, but temperatures will moderate into the upper 60s and low 70s.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, allow extra travel time Saturday evening, and keep jackets handy as cooler fall air settles in. Pets, plants, and evening outdoor activities may also be impacted by the weekend pattern change.
