Denver, Colo. – Residents across the Front Range may see hazy skies and feel the effects of poor air quality through Friday afternoon as state health officials extend an Action Day for multiple pollutants. The alert covers nine counties, including Denver, Jefferson, Douglas, Boulder, Larimer, Weld, Arapahoe, Adams, and Broomfield.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, hot, dry conditions mixed with wildfire smoke drifting in from outside the state are driving ozone and fine particulate matter into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range at times. The alert remains in place until 4 p.m. Friday.

The highest risks fall on children, older adults, and people with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory issues. Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during afternoon and early evening hours when ozone levels peak. If visibility drops below five miles in smoke, conditions have reached unhealthy levels.

Health experts advise staying indoors if smoke thickens, running air conditioning with fresh filters, and avoiding driving gas or diesel vehicles when possible to reduce emissions.

Air quality conditions will be reevaluated Friday, with the potential for additional advisories if stagnant weather continues.
