DENVER, Colo. — A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for much of central and northern Colorado on Sunday as dry, gusty winds create dangerous wildfire conditions across the Front Range and adjacent plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, winds from the southwest will increase to 10 to 15 mph Sunday afternoon, with gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph. Relative humidity will drop to between 10 and 15 percent, leaving vegetation and brush extremely dry. The watch includes Jefferson, Douglas, Boulder, Elbert, Lincoln, and Broomfield counties, with the most critical areas expected above 6,000 feet.
Officials warn that any spark could rapidly spread. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, welding, or other activities that could ignite flames. Even small fires may grow quickly under these conditions.
The Fire Weather Watch remains in effect through Sunday evening, and additional Red Flag Warnings may be issued if conditions worsen.
