Denver, CO – Residents across Colorado should brace for a blustery start to the week, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver/Boulder warns of strong winds and accumulating snow in the northern mountains through midday Monday.
According to the NWS, snow is expected to develop overnight Sunday into early Monday, with 1 to 4 inches of accumulation likely north of Interstate 70 and up to 6 inches possible over the Park Range. The heaviest snow will occur at higher elevations, potentially impacting mountain travel during the Monday morning commute.
Windy conditions will also spread across much of the state Monday. Gusts could reach up to 55 mph over higher terrain and around 40 mph across the plains. These winds may lead to reduced visibility in snow-covered areas and create hazardous driving conditions, particularly on open highways and mountain passes.
The NWS also cautions that elevated fire weather conditions are expected over the Palmer Divide Monday afternoon, as strong winds combine with dry conditions east of the Front Range.
Drivers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to monitor weather updates, secure loose outdoor items, and use caution when traveling in mountain areas or open plains during gusty conditions.
