Colorado greets the morning with a chilly breeze and damp pavement in spots after light snow. Temperatures hover near 40 degrees in Denver, and a few slick patches linger on bridges and side streets.
The National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder has issued a Fire Weather Watch beginning Sunday and again Tuesday for parts of the Front Range. Warmer air surges in first. Highs climb to 58 degrees today under sunny skies, then jump to 66 Sunday and near 69 by Washington’s Birthday.
That warm, dry stretch comes with a catch. Southwest winds increase Sunday into Monday, and humidity drops. Critical fire weather conditions are possible, especially along and east of I-25. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. One spark could spread quickly in dry grasses.
By Tuesday, conditions shift again. Highs cool to 57 with breezy winds. A slight chance of snow develops Tuesday night as lows dip near 30. Snow chances continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with highs falling into the 40s and even upper 40s by late week. While heavy snow is not guaranteed, light accumulations could create slick spots during the morning commute.
Plan ahead for rapid weather swings this President’s Day week. Mild air, fire danger, then a return to winter-like snow showers all arrive within days.
Looking farther out, a broader warming trend may build across much of the central U.S. late next week. For now, Colorado stays active.
