Castle Rock, Colo. – Gardeners across eastern Colorado may want to cover their plants tonight. A frost advisory will take effect early Tuesday for areas along the Palmer Divide, with temperatures expected to bottom out near 32°F.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Denver and Pueblo, the advisory runs from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday and covers Castle Rock, Limon, Black Forest, and surrounding high-elevation communities in Douglas, Elbert, and El Paso counties.
The brief cold snap threatens sensitive outdoor vegetation. Homeowners in areas like Agate, Monument Ridge, and the Rampart Range are urged to bring potted plants indoors or cover tender crops to avoid damage.
“Frost could easily settle in low-lying spots before sunrise,” meteorologist Kari Barjenbruch said Monday. “Even one night like this can kill early vegetable starts or flowers.”
This is the first frost advisory for many of these areas since early April, a reminder that Colorado’s spring weather remains unpredictable—especially above 6,000 feet.
Temperatures will rise quickly after 8 a.m., but another chilly night can’t be ruled out. Check local forecasts late Tuesday in case additional advisories are issued.
