Denver, Colorado – Isolated showers moving over Colorado’s Palmer Divide early Sunday will intensify into stronger thunderstorms by afternoon, particularly across the eastern plains. The National Weather Service warns that a few storms could become strong or even severe from Fort Morgan to Limon, with lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours possible.

According to the National Weather Service office in Boulder, storm activity is expected mainly east of the I-25 corridor, developing mid-to-late afternoon and continuing into the early evening. A marginal risk of severe weather exists for areas like Akron, Sterling, and Limon, where stronger cells could form. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts, especially if traveling along U.S. 34 or I-76.

Although storms are likely, smoke concentrations across the region are expected to decrease through the day, improving air quality. Denver, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs will stay mostly dry, with daytime highs in the 80s. Meanwhile, light PM storms remain possible in the mountains and adjacent foothills.

Dry, warm weather will return by Tuesday and hold through midweek, with fewer storm chances and clearer skies across most of the state.
