Denver, Colorado – Up to 10 inches of heavy mountain snow and a wave of rain and thunderstorms will impact the Denver metro and surrounding areas through Thursday night, creating travel concerns and cooler conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, widespread showers and storms are expected to intensify Wednesday afternoon and evening. The snow level will drop to approximately 8,000 feet overnight, with higher elevations seeing significant accumulation. Mountain communities could receive between 4 to 10 inches of snow, while valley areas may see light accumulation and rain.

In the urban corridor, including Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, highs Wednesday will reach the upper 60s to low 70s before cooling into the 50s on Thursday. Mountain towns will stay colder, with highs in the 40s and overnight lows dipping into the 30s. Drivers on I-70 and U.S. 285 should prepare for slick, snowy conditions by late Wednesday, especially near passes such as Berthoud and Eisenhower Tunnel.

Residents are advised to delay non-essential mountain travel, charge electronic devices, and monitor local alerts for potential winter weather advisories. Conditions will ease Friday as sunny, warmer weather returns to the region.

Additional advisories may be issued as showers redevelop Thursday.
