Denver, Colo. – Extreme heat and dry air are baking much of Colorado this Sunday, with temperatures topping 100°F on the Eastern Plains and elevated fire danger in Jackson and Grand Counties due to breezy conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, mostly sunny skies will dominate the morning, with a few more clouds building by afternoon. A rogue mountain shower is possible after midday, but most areas east of the Rockies will stay dry and hot. Highs are expected to reach 100°F in Holyoke, Sterling, and Wray, with upper 90s common from Fort Collins to Pueblo.
Locally gusty winds in the northwestern high country are driving up wildfire risks. Fire weather conditions will be particularly dangerous in Jackson and Grand Counties, where low humidity and wind could quickly spread any ignition.
Travelers and residents should avoid outdoor burning and remain vigilant. Power companies may also limit certain activities due to fire safety protocols. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, and monitor updates from local emergency management.
Warnings for heat and fire danger remain in effect through Sunday evening. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
