Denver, Colo. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across northern and northeastern Colorado Friday, bringing hail, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. The storms are expected to be strongest over the Palmer Divide and along the I-25 Corridor from Fort Collins through Colorado Springs.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, scattered storms will form in the higher elevations by early afternoon before spreading east into the plains. The threat includes damaging hail, intense downpours, and strong wind gusts that could make evening travel hazardous. Flooding is also possible in low-lying areas and along small streams.

Cities most at risk include Denver, Greeley, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs, where residents are urged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Motorists on I-25, I-70, and Highway 85 should be alert for sudden reduced visibility and slick roadways. Emergency managers recommend staying indoors during storms and securing outdoor items that could be blown away by gusty winds.

The severe threat is expected to diminish late tonight, but additional scattered storms remain possible into the weekend. Residents should continue monitoring weather alerts for updates.
