Hastings, Nebraska – Thick fog is blanketing parts of south-central Nebraska this morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter-mile or less in some areas, creating dangerous driving conditions through 11 a.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Dawson, Gosper, Phelps, Furnas, and Harlan counties. Satellite imagery as of 3 a.m. shows significant fog formation near Holdrege and Lexington, with expanding fog expected through sunrise. Residents in Grand Island, Kearney, and Hastings could also experience patchy dense fog through the morning commute.
Drivers should reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel, especially on Highways 6, 30, and 283 where visibility may be severely limited. Local law enforcement has advised caution on rural roads and near river valleys where fog tends to settle.
Conditions should begin to improve by late morning as sunlight and warming temperatures help dissipate the fog layer. However, the advisory remains active until 11 a.m., and additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
