TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The National Weather Service said dense fog is expected to return Tuesday night across the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama and parts of the Suwannee Valley, creating the potential for hazardous travel during the Wednesday morning commute.

Forecasters said there is a 40% to 70% chance that visibilities will drop below one mile, with some areas briefly falling below a quarter-mile. The fog may become more dangerous where it mixes with smoke from ongoing fires, which could reduce visibility to near zero in isolated locations.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra distance between vehicles and use low-beam headlights when encountering fog.

The fog risk is expected to be highest around sunrise Wednesday before gradually improving later in the morning.
