Milwaukee, WI – Southeast Wisconsin is waking up to dense fog that’s complicating travel and visibility Thursday morning. Drivers and boaters alike are being urged to exercise caution.

The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Milwaukee and surrounding areas, including key roadways like I-94 and I-43. The advisory, in effect until 9 AM, warns of visibility dropping to less than a quarter-mile. Travelers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Those navigating nearshore waters on Lake Michigan should utilize radar and fog signals to ensure safety.

According to the NWS, dense fog is caused by calm winds and high moisture levels following recent temperature drops. These conditions create a potentially hazardous environment for morning commuters and post-Christmas travelers.

Visibility is expected to improve by mid-morning as the fog lifts, but residual dampness may linger on roads. Drivers should remain alert for slippery patches. Beyond Thursday morning, the forecast for the Milwaukee area shows partly cloudy skies and highs near 40°F for Friday, with a slight chance of rain Saturday afternoon.

Plan accordingly if you are traveling over the weekend, as temperatures will drop into the 30s with potential icy conditions Sunday night.
