Columbia, SC – Drivers in central South Carolina should prepare for hazardous conditions early Tuesday as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less.

According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM Tuesday for portions of east-central Georgia and central South Carolina, including Columbia, Lexington, and Augusta. The fog is expected to expand overnight, with the lowest visibility just before sunrise.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. Morning commuters on I-20, I-26, and I-77 should be particularly cautious, as foggy conditions could make travel treacherous.

Beyond Tuesday morning, the weather in Columbia is set to clear up with a high of 78°F. Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 73°F, while Thursday warms to 80°F. A slight chance of showers returns Thursday night into Friday, with rain probabilities around 30-40%.

With improving conditions after the fog clears, residents can expect warmer and sunnier days ahead.
