Dover, Del. – Flash flooding could impact portions of the Delmarva Peninsula Tuesday afternoon and evening as slow-moving thunderstorms return to the region with locally heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, there’s a 50–60% chance of storms across southern Delaware and eastern Maryland today. While the risk of severe storms is low, downpours may overwhelm poor drainage systems in urban areas, particularly around Salisbury, Dover, and Easton.

Rain chances taper off slightly moving north, with only a 28–49% chance across Philadelphia, Trenton, and parts of southern New Jersey. Even in areas with lower probabilities, isolated storms could drop brief bursts of rain capable of creating nuisance flooding during evening commutes.

Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flooded roadways, especially near low-lying routes like U.S. Route 13 in Delaware and coastal zones in Worcester County, Md. Residents should monitor weather alerts, especially if in flood-prone neighborhoods.

Though flash flooding won’t be as widespread as Monday, today’s storms could still cause localized issues. Additional advisories could be issued if rainfall intensifies this evening.
