Delaware – Gray skies hang low over Wilmington this morning as a cold, steady rain begins to move across northern Delaware. Umbrellas and wipers will get their workout through midday as the first true December system sweeps the region, bringing raw air, wet roads, and early winter chill.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is likely through the afternoon with highs in the low 40s before clouds gradually break later tonight. While accumulations are minimal, today’s soggy setup signals the start of a colder stretch that could bring a light snow chance by Friday night, especially north and west of the city.

Commuters along I-95 and Route 141 should plan extra time through midday as wet pavement and ponding could slow travel. As colder air arrives late week, any leftover moisture could freeze, creating slick spots on bridges and secondary roads. Meteorologists note this is the first in a series of December transitions that could lead to more wintry weather next week.

Wednesday and Thursday bring sunshine and highs in the low 40s, but nights dip into the 20s. By Friday, another system edges in from the west, possibly mixing rain and snow after sunset.

By weekend, expect partly sunny skies and crisp, dry air — perfect for early decorating or cleanup before deeper winter settles in.

Stay weather-aware, Delaware — flash freeze conditions are becoming more common this time of year.
