Wilmington, Delaware – Strong storms could bring drenching rain and thunder to Wilmington by Friday evening, with lingering impacts expected through Father’s Day weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, scattered showers may begin after 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a more widespread round of thunderstorms Friday night. Some storms may bring heavy rain and lightning, especially between 8 p.m. and midnight. Rain chances continue Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures dropping into the upper 70s by Saturday afternoon.

Travelers on I-95 and Route 202 should watch for slick roads and possible ponding during evening hours. Saturday’s chance of rain rises to 70%, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible. Thunderstorms Saturday night could produce isolated flooding in low-lying areas. Outdoor events, including Father’s Day gatherings, should have a backup plan indoors.

By Monday, skies remain mostly cloudy with a high of 74°F. Rain chances continue into the early workweek, with scattered storms possible into Tuesday. Power outages and delays may follow depending on storm intensity Sunday night.

Wilmington residents should monitor local alerts and prepare for fluctuating conditions throughout the weekend. Keep devices charged, avoid flooded roads, and delay non-essential travel during storm hours.
