WILMINGTON, Del. – Showers and thunderstorms could slow commutes across Delaware on Wednesday, with the heaviest rainfall expected late into the night before conditions turn calmer heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, scattered showers will develop Wednesday afternoon with storms possible after 2 p.m. Wilmington and surrounding New Castle County could see locally heavy rainfall in thunderstorms, though most totals will remain light. Chances of rain continue into Wednesday night, with winds from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday brings lingering showers early before partly cloudy skies develop in the afternoon. Highs will settle near 76 degrees, and drier air will begin pushing in. By Friday, forecasters expect sunny skies and highs around 81, setting up a dry stretch into Saturday with comfortable conditions across Delaware.
Travelers should keep an eye on changing road conditions Wednesday evening, especially during storms when visibility drops quickly. Residents are advised to delay outdoor plans until conditions improve by late Thursday.
Unsettled weather may return Sunday with scattered showers possible, but the strongest storm threat will be behind the region by then.
