Wilmington, DE – Low clouds hang over the Brandywine Valley this morning, and the air feels damp as Delaware braces for a wet start to Thanksgiving travel. Drivers across New Castle County and along I-95 may encounter slower commutes later today as rain moves in from the south and lingers through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, light rain begins by late afternoon and turns steady into the evening. Temperatures rise to around 59°F before dipping into the low 50s tonight as a calm breeze shifts southwest. Showers will persist through early Wednesday, with brief breaks possible before another round of light rain. By Wednesday night, the front exits, leaving behind clearing skies and cooler, breezy air.
Thanksgiving Day will be the calm after the storm — mostly sunny with highs near 46°F and a crisp, dry feel. It’s ideal weather for morning parades, backyard football, and travel across the region. However, forecasters note that colder air behind this system could bring frost risks and below-normal temperatures into the weekend.
As the U.S. cold front expands east, a larger pattern shift may introduce early winter conditions by early December, including the first hints of snow in northern states.
