Wilmington, DE – Winter’s grip will continue across Delaware next week as Arctic air lingers over the Mid-Atlantic through December 9–15, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1.

Forecasters expect temperatures to remain below seasonal norms, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s and overnight lows dipping into the 20s. The persistent chill, combined with a more active storm track, could bring periods of light rain and snow, especially around midweek.

Wilmington, Dover, and Newark are all expected to feel the brunt of the cold pattern, while coastal Delaware may see a mix of rain and flurries depending on storm timing and temperature swings. NOAA also indicates above-normal precipitation, suggesting that wet, chilly conditions could be frequent through mid-December.

In contrast, the West Coast, Texas, and parts of the Heartland will experience above-average warmth and dry weather, creating a sharp divide across the nation. For Delaware, however, it’s a continued stretch of true December weather — cold, damp, and occasionally wintry.

Forecasters hint at a possible moderation in temperatures later in the month, but until then, residents can expect the Arctic chill to hang on a bit longer.
