WILMINGTON, Del. – Delaware’s bright, breezy weekend will end on a damp note as showers return to the Wilmington area by Monday morning. Commuters along I-95, Route 1, and I-495 should plan for slower travel as light rain and gusty winds develop to start the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, warm fall sunshine will linger through Sunday before a cold front sweeps across the state Sunday night. Rain chances rise sharply late Sunday with gusts up to 25 mph possible. Temperatures will stay mild near 77°F Sunday, then drop into the 60s on Monday as the front passes.

While rainfall totals are expected to remain light—generally less than half an inch—brief downpours could cause slick roads during the Monday morning commute. Residents should secure lightweight Halloween decorations, clear storm drains, and allow extra time for travel during early showers.

Skies will clear Monday night as cooler, drier air settles in. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 70°F and low humidity, creating ideal conditions for outdoor chores, pumpkin patches, and late fall yardwork. Wednesday looks equally pleasant before another weak front brings scattered showers midweek.

The third week of October will balance brief rain with plenty of fall sunshine, offering Delawareans a comfortable mix of mild days and crisp mornings as autumn color peaks statewide.
