Wilmington, Delaware – A drenching Wednesday continues across Delaware as all-day rain and embedded thunderstorms roll through, causing slowdowns on I-95 and slick roads across New Castle County.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, a steady, soaking rain will persist through the evening hours with possible thunder around Wilmington between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday. Up to an inch of rainfall is expected, and gusty east winds up to 15 mph will make umbrellas a challenge. The chance of rain remains near 100% through tonight.
By Thursday, periods of lighter rain are expected through the morning, tapering off by midday. A drying trend begins in the afternoon, with breezy conditions from the north up to 15 mph and a high near 63°F. Travel Thursday morning could still be damp, but road conditions will gradually improve.
Friday brings partial sunshine and a 40% chance of showers after 2 p.m. Saturday looks more promising, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 65°F—ideal for early Memorial Day plans.
Looking Ahead:
- Sunday: Partly cloudy with a high of 74°F.
- Memorial Day (Monday): Chance of showers, partly sunny, high near 73°F.
- Tuesday: Scattered showers possible again, with temperatures holding in the low 70s.
Stay weather-aware today and use extra caution on wet roads. More updates will follow as the Memorial Day weekend approaches and weather patterns shift into a summer rhythm.
