Wilmington, Delaware – Rain and thunderstorms could stall plans across Delaware Friday before a stretch of dry, sunny weather kicks off the unofficial start of summer.
According to the National Weather Service, Wilmington and much of New Castle County will face an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Friday, with localized downpours possible during the evening commute. Winds from the west at 5 to 15 mph may also accompany the storms. Drivers should use caution on I-95 and Route 13 during peak afternoon hours.
Friday night brings rapid clearing, setting the stage for a weekend turnaround. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs near 66°F and 69°F respectively, ideal for outdoor events and Memorial Day travel. Lows dip into the upper 40s both nights, so pack an extra layer for evening plans.
Memorial Day Monday continues the trend, climbing to near 73°F under mostly sunny skies. No rain is expected for holiday parades or backyard cookouts.
Looking ahead, showers return Tuesday and Wednesday with 50% and 40% chances respectively. Highs hover in the low 70s, with potential for scattered rain Tuesday night.
Plan outdoor activities Saturday through Monday, when skies are clearest. Keep an eye on local alerts for possible rainfall early next week.
Warnings remain in effect for Friday’s thunderstorm window. The next update will include any changes to the early-week rain pattern or Monday’s temperatures.
