Wilmington, Delaware – Drivers across Delaware should prepare for wet and potentially slick conditions by sunrise Wednesday, as a widespread rain event moves in.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, heavy showers are expected to begin after 8 a.m. Wednesday with a 90% chance of rain and possible accumulation between a quarter and half an inch. Winds from the east at 5 to 10 mph may further reduce visibility during morning travel along I-95 and Route 13 near Wilmington.
Rain will continue into Wednesday night, with an 80% chance of precipitation and similar accumulation. Thursday brings more unsettled weather with a 60% chance of scattered showers throughout the day, though totals are expected to remain light. Rain could briefly return Friday afternoon, but the weekend looks clearer and warmer.
By Saturday, partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-70s signal the return of more seasonable conditions. Sunday follows suit with sunny skies and highs near 77°F. Monday continues the early summer trend, topping out around 79°F under mostly sunny skies.
Travelers should monitor road conditions Wednesday and consider delaying non-essential trips until rain clears. Keep phones charged and umbrellas ready as Delaware moves through this midweek weather system.
More alerts may be issued if rainfall rates increase or storms develop. Stay tuned for updates as this week’s weather continues to evolve.
