Wilmington, Delaware – Thunderstorms could hammer Delaware by late Wednesday afternoon, bringing dangerous downpours and street flooding to Wilmington and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday, with wind gusts near 25 mph and rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch. Eastbound routes like I-95 and US-13 may see ponding and slowed traffic during the evening commute. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday, raising concern for low-lying areas near the Christina River and Delaware Bay.

Moisture-packed clouds could dump localized heavy rain, especially during peak driving hours. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, secure outdoor items, and charge devices in case of isolated outages.

By Friday, the system begins to move out, though spotty showers remain possible into the weekend. Temperatures will stay seasonally warm, peaking at 78°F Wednesday and 83°F Friday. Nights remain mild, with lows in the 60s.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows a mixed pattern:

  • Saturday: Scattered showers, high 82°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 81°F
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high near 78°F
