Wilmington, DE – Sweltering heat and fast-moving thunderstorms could disrupt weekend plans across Delaware on Saturday, with real-feel temperatures pushing 99°F. A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m., and roadways like I-95 through Wilmington may become slick as afternoon storms roll in.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the combination of high humidity and temperatures near 90°F will create dangerous conditions across New Castle County and neighboring areas. Thunderstorms are expected after 5 p.m., with lightning and localized downpours possible through late evening.

Cities like Newark, Middletown, and Wilmington could see rain totals under a tenth of an inch — unless caught under a strong thunderstorm cell. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time outdoors, and check on elderly neighbors. Use air conditioning when possible and avoid physical activity during the hottest hours.

Saturday evening plans may be impacted, especially around I-295 and DE-1, where visibility could drop suddenly in heavy rain. While Sunday brings relief with mostly clear skies and highs near 90°F, isolated storms may return Monday afternoon.

Weather will stay active into early next week, with additional showers possible Monday night into Tuesday. A stronger cold front may bring thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Five-Day Forecast for Wilmington, DE (June 27 – July 1):

  • Friday: Chance of showers, high 73°F, breezy
  • Saturday: PM storms, hot and humid, high 90°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 90°F
  • Monday: Chance of PM storms, high 91°F
