Allentown, Pennsylvania – Communities along the Pennsylvania–New Jersey border could see renewed winter travel concerns as a late-January pattern increases the chance for accumulating snow across the Delaware Valley and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the PA–NJ border region falls within a slight risk for heavy snow from Saturday through the following Friday, indicating a higher likelihood of one or more organized winter systems affecting the area. The risk includes eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, where colder air is expected to remain in place.

In eastern Pennsylvania, including Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, temperatures trending below normal favor snow as the primary precipitation type. That could lead to slick conditions along Interstate 78, Route 22, and other major commuter corridors during heavier snowfall.

Across the river in western New Jersey, including Trenton and nearby Mercer County communities, similar impacts are possible, with snow potentially affecting Interstate 295, Route 1, and local roadways. Even moderate accumulations could cause delays during peak travel periods.

PennDOT and the New Jersey Department of Transportation encourage residents to monitor road conditions, allow extra time for travel, and keep winter safety kits in vehicles. With colder air likely to persist, any snow that falls may linger between systems.

More detailed outlooks and possible winter weather advisories are expected as the late-January window approaches, with clearer timing and impacts emerging by early next week.
