Delaware–Pennsylvania – Wind rattles through bare trees and flags flap sharply across Wilmington and Philadelphia this morning as a colder air mass settles in for the weekend. Sunshine will dominate Friday and Saturday, but the quiet spell won’t last—rain and falling temperatures return by Sunday night, creating slippery travel conditions along major highways like I-95 and Route 202 just as post-Thanksgiving traffic intensifies.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia, Friday and Saturday will be brisk but bright, with highs in the low to mid-40s and gusts topping 30 mph at times. The chill deepens Saturday night, with lows dipping into the upper 20s, prompting patchy frost in outlying areas.

By Sunday afternoon, clouds will thicken and winds will shift as a new low-pressure system tracks through the mid-Atlantic. Rain chances rise to 50–60% by Sunday evening, with steady showers expected through late night. Behind the rain, temperatures will fall quickly into the upper 30s, signaling the start of an early December cold snap.

NOAA’s extended outlook suggests below-normal temperatures across much of the East from Dec. 2–6, paired with above-average precipitation—a pattern that could bring additional rain or even a rain-to-snow mix inland next week.

Travelers heading home Sunday should plan extra time and prepare for reduced visibility and slick pavement after sunset.
