
Seaford, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash Tuesday night after a man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Sussex Highway in Seaford. The collision occurred around 10:10 p.m. on December 2, 2025, prompting a multi-hour shutdown of the highway’s southbound lanes.
According to Delaware State Police, an 18-year-old driver from Laurel was traveling south on US-13 (Sussex Highway) in a Toyota 4Runner when a pedestrian began crossing from the center grass median. Investigators say the man, who was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a flashlight, entered the path of the SUV and was hit in the right lane.
Troopers report that the pedestrian’s car had run out of gas in the northbound median shortly before the crash. The 66-year-old man from Seaford was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until family notifications are complete.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
Sussex Highway southbound remained closed for approximately three hours as the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit documented the scene and cleared the roadway. Troopers are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Master Corporal K.
