Wilmington, DE – Triple-digit heat will grip Delaware and southwestern New Jersey again Tuesday, with the most dangerous temperatures pushing heat indices as high as 109° by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for New Castle County, Delaware and parts of Camden, Gloucester, and northwestern Burlington Counties in New Jersey. Cities including Wilmington, Moorestown, Cherry Hill, and Mount Holly are under the warning. Officials urge residents to stay indoors, hydrate often, and avoid outdoor work during peak hours. Heat-related illnesses will spike quickly, especially for those without air conditioning.

Tuesday [June 24] will be the most intense day, with highs near 101°F and stifling humidity. By Wednesday, highs will again reach 98°F, with scattered thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m.. Overnight lows remain in the upper 70s, offering little overnight relief. Residents along I-95, Route 13, and other heavily trafficked corridors should limit travel, especially in older vehicles prone to overheating.

Never leave children or pets in cars, as interior temps can become deadly in minutes. If you need help finding a cooling center, dial 2-1-1.

Looking ahead, the heat will ease slightly after midweek, but humid conditions and storm chances return Thursday and Friday.
