Newark, DE – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Pulaski Highway near Newark on Monday evening. The collision occurred at around 5:21 p.m. as the 40-year-old man rode westbound on the highway’s shoulder. An unknown vehicle, traveling in the same direction, struck the cyclist and fled the scene, leaving the victim fatally injured.
According to Delaware State Police, witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black SUV, but further details remain unknown. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit joined patrol troopers in searching for the SUV, but they were unable to locate it.
The cyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are withholding his identity until the family is notified.
Westbound lanes of Pulaski Highway, near Wellington Drive, were closed for four and a half hours while police investigated. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene and cleared the roadway.
