Philadelphia, PA – With heat index values soaring up to 106 degrees, communities across New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and parts of Maryland are bracing for dangerous conditions through 8 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a widespread Heat Advisory remains in effect for most of the region, including Philadelphia, Camden, Wilmington, Atlantic City, Dover, and Ocean City. The advisory covers areas from Sussex County, NJ, and New Castle, DE, to Berks, Bucks, and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania, with peak heat expected between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

City officials warn that the high heat and humidity could lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke, especially for those without air conditioning or working outdoors. Road crews, construction sites, and anyone traveling along the I-95 corridor or Route 30 should take frequent breaks in shaded or cooled spaces. Local schools and day camps in Morristown, Reading, and Glassboro have activated early dismissal plans or heat protocols.

Residents are urged to drink extra fluids, check on elderly neighbors, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Wear light, loose clothing and never leave pets or children in parked cars. Employers are reminded to schedule outdoor work in the cooler parts of the day, following OSHA guidelines.

Temperatures and humidity may ease late Thursday, but additional advisories are possible as summer heat lingers.
