Troopers responded to the neighborhood around 5:20 a.m. on July 11 after multiple gunshots were reported. Authorities said an unknown suspect allegedly fired several rounds into a residence occupied by five adults and three children. No one was injured in the incident.

According to Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit, detectives identified Brandon Carter as the alleged shooter. By the time investigators linked him to the case, Carter was already being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on unrelated charges. Detectives served arrest warrants at the facility on August 22, 2025.

The following day, Carter was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and charged with eight felony counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree, along with one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief under $1,000 for property damage. He is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a secured bond of $48,050.
