Wilmington, DE – Residents in northern Delaware are facing slippery conditions this morning as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m.

The National Weather Service predicts light snow and freezing rain, creating hazardous travel conditions across New Castle County. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads are especially dangerous, with up to one inch of snow and a light glaze of ice expected.

Drivers are urged to slow down and remain cautious during the morning and midday hours. Sudden stops and turns should be avoided, and extra distance should be maintained between vehicles. Pedestrians should also take care, as untreated steps, driveways, and sidewalks may be icy and dangerous.

Temperatures will stay near freezing until this afternoon, with overnight lows dropping into the 20s. Christmas Day could bring additional light snow and freezing rain, particularly during the morning hours. Another storm system may arrive by the weekend, potentially adding to travel challenges.

Travelers in Delaware should check real-time updates by calling 511 and consider postponing nonessential trips until conditions improve. If you must travel, ensure your vehicle is equipped with winter supplies, including blankets and ice scrapers.

Stay alert while walking outdoors, as icy conditions are likely to persist on untreated surfaces throughout the day.
