Dover, DE – A significant winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall across central and southern Delaware as well as parts of southern New Jersey, with accumulations reaching up to 9 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ, a Winter Storm Warningremains in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday for portions of Delaware and Maryland. A separate warning takes effect at 4 p.m. Tuesday for southern New Jersey, including Atlantic City and Cape May. Snowfall is expected to range from 5 to 7 inches in Delaware, with localized totals up to 9 inches. Southern New Jersey can expect 4 to 6 inches, with isolated areas reaching 8 inches.
The storm is expected to intensify during the Tuesday evening commute, making travel hazardous. Road conditions could remain difficult into Wednesday morning, with reduced visibility and snow-covered roads.
Residents are urged to limit travel and prepare for possible power outages. If travel is necessary, keeping emergency supplies in vehicles—such as food, water, and a flashlight—is advised.
