Wilmington, DE – Drivers in Delaware and southern New Jersey are waking up to patchy freezing fog this Sunday morning, with temperatures hovering near freezing and visibility dropping below a quarter mile in some areas. The National Weather Service warns that even light fog could produce a thin glaze of ice on roads, bridges, and windshields through 8 a.m., making early travel especially risky.

Road surfaces and elevated areas may become slick quickly as moisture freezes, particularly along I-95, Route 13, and other secondary routes through New Castle and Kent Counties. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra braking distance. Even a faint layer of ice can make turns and stops hazardous.

Once the fog lifts, skies will gradually clear, and temperatures will rise into the low 40s under partly sunny conditions. Monday brings continued dry weather and sunshine, but colder air lingers with morning lows in the upper teens. By Wednesday, clouds and milder air return, bringing a 30% chance of rain that could lead to slick commutes and wet pavement across the Delaware Valley.

Long-range forecasts show another cold front sweeping east by December 11–17, potentially setting up for renewed wintry precipitation across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Residents are encouraged to prepare now for early winter travel impacts as holiday season patterns strengthen.
