Smyrna, DE – A 59-year-old man from Clayton, Delaware, died early Friday after a motorcycle crash in Smyrna, police said.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened around 4:16 a.m. on Smyrna-Leipsic Road near Big Oak Road. Investigators said the Yamaha X1A motorcycle the man was driving failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, entered a ditch and struck a culvert pipe, ejecting the driver.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending family notification, authorities said.

Smyrna-Leipsic Road was closed for an extended period while troopers investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
