Wilmington, Delaware – Drivers and residents in Delaware should brace for a wet and stormy Tuesday, as heavy rain and thunderstorms arrive in Wilmington, potentially making I-95 and local roads slick through Wednesday. After a humid and unsettled start to the week, Tuesday’s storms could disrupt commutes, slow traffic, and create hazardous travel conditions across New Castle County.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely by Tuesday afternoon, with patchy fog developing early and heavy downpours possible at times. The risk intensifies from 2 p.m. onward, with the threat of localized flooding, especially in low-lying neighborhoods and along major routes like I-495 and U.S. Route 13. Rain chances remain elevated into Tuesday night, with more storms possible before midnight and lingering showers through dawn Wednesday.

Travelers should plan for slower travel and consider delaying non-essential trips during the heaviest rainfall. If you must be on the road, turn headlights on, reduce speed, and watch for ponding water. West winds will keep conditions muggy, with highs near 87°F Tuesday and lows falling to 74°F overnight.

Wednesday brings a chance for more showers and isolated thunderstorms, keeping skies unsettled and roads damp. By Thursday, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and a high of 92°F. The heat and humidity return for the weekend, but storm chances lessen, bringing a more typical summer feel by Saturday and Sunday.

Warnings for wet weather and patchy fog remain in effect through Wednesday, with the next update expected if conditions change.
