Wilmington, Del. – Showers will linger in Wilmington through early Sunday before skies clear and a dry pattern takes hold across Delaware. Sunshine returns Monday, September 8, as the region enters a stretch of below-normal rainfall that may last into mid-September.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers are likely before 10 a.m. Sunday with highs in the mid-70s. Skies gradually clear Sunday night, with lows dipping into the mid-50s. High pressure builds Monday, bringing full sunshine and highs near 75. NOAA’s 6–10 day precipitation outlook highlights Delaware among the areas likely to see reduced rainfall, raising concerns for soil moisture and stream flows.

Drivers along I-95 through Wilmington and Newark will benefit from drier roads and smoother commutes as the week begins. Farmers and gardeners, however, may see stress on crops and lawns if the dry stretch extends longer. Officials caution residents to be mindful of outdoor burning, as drier air could elevate fire risks if humidity drops later this week.

While the pattern sets up pleasant, fall-like afternoons, residents should take advantage of clear skies while also preparing for the impacts of limited rainfall. Reduced rain chances mean lawns and gardens will require closer attention, and water conservation may become important if the trend continues.

The National Weather Service expects the dry influence to hold until late next week, when a weak system may finally bring the next chance for showers.
