Wilmington, Delaware – Storms are set to return to northern Delaware late Sunday, with a risk of early Monday delays across New Castle County’s busiest roads, including I-95 and Route 13.

According to the National Weather Service, a surge of moisture will move into the region after 8 p.m. Sunday, with showers and a possible thunderstorm likely between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Light rain may linger through daybreak Monday, impacting early school and work commutes. New rainfall totals could reach up to half an inch.

Drivers heading through Wilmington before 9 a.m. Monday should expect slower travel, especially near Brandywine Creek and on elevated roadways like the Christina Parkway and I-495 overpasses. While flooding isn’t likely, wet leaves and sudden downpours could cause slick patches and reduced visibility.

Monday will turn mostly cloudy but dry out quickly, with highs near 81°F. Tuesday stays cooler and dry, but a noticeable shift in temperatures will come Wednesday, when highs fall into the low 70s, marking the seasonal transition into October.

While no weather alerts are currently in effect, conditions may warrant a Monday morning advisory. Residents are urged to check for updates from the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and review their fall safety plans.

More updates are expected as October begins, with cooler mornings and a chance for dry, crisp autumn weather later in the week.
