New Castle, DE – A Wilmington man was arrested early Thanksgiving morning after troopers discovered nearly 500 grams of suspected marijuana during a DUI checkpoint in New Castle.

According to the Delaware State Police, 22-year-old Wajahne Leggett was stopped around 12:15 a.m. Thursday at a DUI checkpoint on Wilmington Road near Municipal Boulevard. The checkpoint was part of a statewide enforcement initiative coordinated by the Office of Highway Safety.

During the stop, troopers observed cash and several individually packaged bags of suspected marijuana in plain view inside a Toyota Camry driven by Leggett. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 481 grams of suspected marijuana along with $1,230 in what authorities described as suspected drug proceeds.

Leggett was taken into custody and transported to the New Castle City Police Department. He faces multiple felony drug charges, including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and later released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.

State Police officials emphasized that the checkpoint was part of increased DUI and drug enforcement efforts during the holiday weekend.
