Muncie, IN – Law enforcement agencies across Indiana are mourning Wednesday after Delaware County Sheriff’s Corporal Blake Reynolds was killed in a crash on Interstate 69 while assisting a disabled vehicle, according to officials.
According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened Wednesday near the 247-mile marker on northbound I-69. Corporal Reynolds, a four-year veteran of the department, was helping a broken-down semi when he was struck by another northbound semi-truck. Officials said he was outside his patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.
Multiple agencies responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the sheriff’s office confirmed Reynolds died from his injuries.
Reynolds joined the department in 2022 and quickly rose through the ranks, earning promotion to corporal through what officials described as professionalism, dedication, and hard work. He also served in the Army Reserve based out of Camp Atterbury.
Sheriff’s officials said Reynolds was known for his commitment to the people of Delaware County and his compassion toward others. He married his wife, Allison, earlier this year and the couple was looking forward to building a future together, the release stated.
“This is an immeasurable loss,” the sheriff’s office wrote, asking the public to keep Reynolds’ family, fellow deputies, and first responders in their thoughts and prayers.
The sheriff’s office also thanked emergency responders for their quick efforts at the scene.
