Rehoboth Beach, Del. – Low-lying neighborhoods near Delaware’s back bays could see water rising onto roads and properties this morning as a coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, around half a foot of tidal inundation is expected in flood-prone areas of Sussex County, particularly near Little Assawoman Bay, Indian River Bay, and Rehoboth Bay. Oceanfront flooding is not anticipated.
Minor flooding could impact local parks, parking lots, and low-elevation roads, though only isolated closures are expected. Drivers should avoid water-covered streets and heed all barricades, as water depth may be unpredictable.
The advisory comes as higher-than-normal tides affect inland waterways along the Delaware coast. Residents in vulnerable zones should move vehicles to higher ground and secure outdoor belongings.
Conditions are expected to improve after high tide passes early this afternoon. However, those living near the bays should stay alert in case further advisories are issued.
