Atlantic City, New Jersey – A winter storm is set to impact coastal areas of southern New Jersey and southern Delaware beginning Saturday night, bringing accumulating snow, icy conditions, and gusty winds that could make travel very difficult through early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Monday for inland Sussex County and the Delaware beaches, as well as Atlantic and Cape May counties in New Jersey. Snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected, with a light ice glaze around one-tenth of an inch. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, particularly along the coast, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Regional impacts will center on travel and coastal conditions. Snow-covered roads and icy patches are expected to develop quickly Saturday night, especially on bridges, overpasses, and exposed coastal roadways such as Route 1 in Delaware, the Garden State Parkway, and Route 9 in New Jersey. Blowing snow may further reduce visibility during heavier bands.
Communities including Atlantic City, Ocean City, Cape May Court House, Hammonton, Rehoboth Beach, and Georgetown should prepare for prolonged winter conditions. Officials urge residents and visitors to delay unnecessary travel and secure emergency supplies in vehicles if travel cannot be avoided.
The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through early Monday morning, with hazardous conditions likely to affect the Monday commute. Residents should continue monitoring local alerts and check road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
