DeKalb, IL – Drivers in DeKalb County should prepare for delays as road construction begins today, Monday, Sept. 15, on Somonauk Road between US Route 30 and Chicago Road.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the Hot Mix Asphalt Surface Course project will include a three-foot paved safety shoulder. Work is scheduled to take place under traffic with flaggers directing vehicles through the area.
Crews will be on-site from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Officials noted that while Somonauk Road will remain open, drivers should expect slowed traffic, potential wait times, and detours in certain spots.
The project aims to improve roadway safety and extend the life of the heavily traveled route, which connects rural DeKalb County with nearby highways. Authorities encourage motorists to allow extra travel time, use caution near workers, and seek alternate routes when possible.
For questions or concerns, residents may contact the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at 815-756-9513.
