Deerfield, IL – A gas line strike in Deerfield prompted emergency roadway closures Monday after a construction crew accidentally damaged a line on Hazel Avenue near Hemlock Street.

According to the Deerfield Police Department, both police and fire crews responded to the scene at approximately 1,300 block of Hazel Avenue to secure the area and protect nearby residents. Authorities confirmed that roadway closures are in place while first responders work to contain the situation.

Officials urged drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the scene is cleared. “Our teams are working to secure the scene and ensure public safety,” the department stated in its advisory.

No injuries have been reported as of Monday, and authorities have not released an estimated time for the road to reopen. Crews are expected to remain on site throughout the afternoon while gas utility workers assess and repair the damage.

Gas line strikes can pose significant hazards, including the risk of fire or explosion, which is why emergency protocols require swift road closures and evacuations if needed. Deerfield authorities emphasized the importance of steering clear of the scene to allow emergency personnel to complete their work safely.

Residents in the area are advised to monitor official channels for updates as the situation develops. The Deerfield Police Department has promised to release further information once the roadway is safe for travel.
