South Bend, IN – A South Bend man was hospitalized after crashing into a deer while riding his motorcycle.

According to authorities, the collision occurred around 9 p.m. on Tuesday on Calvin Center near Mason Street in Cassopolis. The 40-year-old man was traveling southbound when a deer suddenly ran out in front of him. Unable to avoid the animal, the motorcyclist collided with the deer and was thrown from his bike.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and provided initial medical care. The man was subsequently taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but he is expected to recover.

Local officials have noted an increase in deer activity in the area during this time of year, urging motorists to remain vigilant, especially during dawn and dusk when deer are most active. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, there have been multiple reports of deer-related accidents in Cassopolis this summer, highlighting the need for increased awareness.
