Jackson, Miss. – A dangerous tornado setup is unfolding across the Deep South and Midwest Tuesday evening, placing millions under watches from Mississippi to Indiana through late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, Tornado Watch 307 remains active until midnight for central Mississippi, including Jackson, Meridian, and Starkville, as well as parishes in northeast Louisiana. Another round of severe activity is expected to continue past midnight in parts of Alabama, where Huntsville and Decatur fall under Watch 305 through 10 p.m.

In Illinois and Indiana, Tornado Watch 304 is in effect until 8 p.m. CDT for Champaign, Urbana, and Danville, while Lafayette and Terre Haute, Indiana remain under the same threat until 9 p.m. EDT. Meanwhile, Tornado Watch 305 blankets a broad swath of central Kentucky and Middle Tennessee—including Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, and Nashville—until 10 p.m. CDT.

Emergency officials urge residents to monitor NOAA weather radio and keep mobile alerts enabled. Those in mobile homes should move to sturdier shelter, and everyone is encouraged to identify their nearest safe room or storm shelter.

Storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and fast-moving tornadoes will persist into the early hours. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as the system tracks east overnight.
